Impromptu results for 2.17.13

Seventeen 'late night degenerates' made it out to the virtual felts of Lock Poker last night for the 162nd running of The Impromptu. We didn't have a broadcast, or any bounties this week, but as always, the game was competitive as ever. Most of the usual suspects were there, each fighting hard for the coveted Impromptu Cup.

We had to knock off half the field to get down to a final table, with the final nine fine players and their respective stacks looking like this . . .

Seat 1: Hard2foldem (2,181 in chips)
Seat 2: curtinsea (2,286 in chips)
Seat 3: Halfcent2012 (2,338 in chips)
Seat 4: Shyne42 (5,343 in chips)
Seat 5: DrRunGood1 (5,495 in chips)
Seat 6: Lucky_Lucy (2,190 in chips)
Seat 7: burkey76 (3,208 in chips)
Seat 8: 69belette69 (5,735 in chips)
Seat 9: SuddenMoves (5,224 in chips)

With the blinds at 100/200/20, the action was immediate, with burkey76 moving all in from the big blind with pocket tens, only to be smacked down by the pocket aces of 69belette69, and he would be our ninth place finisher.

Just a couple hands later, I could get no action with my pocket aces, lamenting the lack of a much needed double up. But the following hand would see the short stack Hard2foldem make a min raise on my big blind, to which I responded by moving him all in with my AT. Making the call and turning over pocket sixes, he would have to sweat the over cards to survive. But an Ace in the window dashed those hopes, and Hard2foldem would finish in 8th place.

Halfcent2012 was running desperately low on chips, and made an all in move from the button. DrRunGood1 would make the call and show us A5 against the K2 suited of the aggressor. No help came on the flop, and a five on the turn would seal the deal. Halfcent2012 would finish in 7th place.

Shyne42 would be the next to put his chips in the middle, shoving with the magic fours and facing a call by DrRunGood1's Big Slick. DrRunGood1 would pair his Ace on the flop and his King on the turn to send Shyne42 to the rail in 6th place.

The five-handed action was pretty solid, and I managed to work myself into the chip lead when I picked up the weapons of mass destruction once again. I made a 3x raise from the button on DrRunGood1's big blind. We raised each other until I was all in, and he showed pocket Tens that did not improve, and I doubled up into the chip lead. Things were looking promising for that elusive tenth Impromptu win.

Still five handed and with the blinds now at 200/400/40, SuddenMoves jammed his stack into the middle, and was snapped by Lucky_Lucy, who turned over pocket Queens versus the AK suited of SuddenMoves. There would be no help for the over cards, and SuddenMoves would be our 5th place finisher.

Playing four handed found Lucky_Lucy and myself with 12k in chips, with DrRunGood1 and 69belette69 each just under 5k, and the battle was on. At one point, 69belette69 was down to just 6bb and on the short stack. But she turned up the aggression factor and was able to work her stack up a bit. She made an all-in move that was called by DrRunGood1, and her pocket Tens would hold against the A7 'hex hand' of DrRunGood1, doubling 69belette69 and crippling the good doctor. He would put his remaining chips in with a suited Ace, and 69belette69 made the call with Ducks, which would hold, sending DrRunGood1 to the rail in 4th place.

Now in the money, 69belette69 and I were sitting on 12k stacks, with Lucky_Lucy very close behind at 9K. But that would be short lived, as a hand developed between Lucky_Lucy and myself. On a King high flop I had made top pair, but Lucy was not going away. And as my kicker was suspect, I gave up on the hand on the river, but not before giving up 40% of my chips. Lucky_Lucy showed her hand, having flopped two pair and made a full house on the river, I was lucky to have not doubled her up.

I would get my revenge, getting it in with a suited Ace against her KJ, and making my flush. Thinking I had sent her to the rail, I made a premature "GG" that I immediately feared had jinxed me. After having a dominating chip lead, I spewed it off in a big way, with two pair against a straight to the Ace, giving 69belette69 the runaway chip lead, and dropping myself well down, even finding myself the short stack again a few hands later.

Lucky_Lucy was just not getting any traction, and with the blinds at 400/800/75, her stack was quickly being eroded. She made her stand, and 69belette69 made the call and paired her ace to send Lucky_Lucy to the rail in 3rd place.

Heads up action began with our stacks looking like this . . .

Seat 2: curtinsea (10,283 in chips)
Seat 8: 69belette69 (23,717 in chips)

We played just three hands heads up, with the chips going in the middle on a 9-high flop. 69belette69 showed A9 to topple my K9, and take her first Impromptu title!!  I was relegated to my record extending 11th runner up finish, a dubious distinction to be sure

Congratulations to 69belette69 on your Impromptu victory!!!

My sincerest thanks to everyone for coming out each week and continuing to make this a fun, fun game. We will be back next week, and on air at LuvinPoker Radio once again, with my cohost Tami, aka T bone69. Get your name on the Impromptu Cup!!
