History of The Impromptu

Just as the name would indicate, The Impromptu started as an unplanned private game, put together on an hour's notice. What sparked the game was an observer in another game, trying his level best to get a dollar off of one of the players. The host of that game graciously help young Billy out, and his next request was to get another game going so he could play with us. And thus, The Impromptu began.

That first game was held on Pokerstars December 27th, 2009, with fifteen players taking to the felts. Our new friend held the chip lead for a while, but chasing some flushes left him taking buses, and he went out on the bubble. In the end, it would be Pokerelites defeating Jake_st for the first Impromptu Cup.

With Pokerstars' sudden departure from our host's home state, the game transitioned to a new home on Full Tilt, where it would continue until that fateful April day in 2011.

Black Friday. The final Impromptu on Full Tilt had a field without any US players, and the future of the game was quite clouded. But we would soon find a new home for our favorite game on LuvinPoker. And so began it's new life at it's third card room.

On January 20th, 2013, The Impromptu transitioned to Lock Poker, and the late night degenerates once again found a new home. And so we carried on, each and every Saturday night.

On November 10th, 2013, The Impromptu ran for the 200th week in a grand celebration that brought many familiar faces back after long absences, as well as new players coming in to find a great game with the late night degenerates.

On December 28th, 2014,  The Impromptu celebrated it's 5th Anniversary, and 265th running.

On February 15th, 2015, The Impromptu returned to Pokerstars. It continues on as a free2play game in the Markielpn Home Game Club

On December 26th, 2015,  The Impromptu celebrated it's 6th Anniversary, and 311th running.

Join us as we continue the great tradition that is The Impromptu!
